Second-Stage Housing Program

This is a new program of Interval House of Ottawa that offers deeply affordable, medium-term housing with wrap-around supports for women and 2SLGBTQIA+ survivors of domestic violence, family violence and/or human trafficking who require ongoing support to rebuild their lives.
Our program offers 1- and 2-bedroom apartments for individuals and families for as long as it takes for them to obtain permanent housing.
Programming will include
-
case coordination
-
risk assessment, safety planning
-
system navigation and transitional housing support
-
counselling
-
life skills programming such as financial literacy, household maintenance/repair, parenting support
-
Recreational programming for adults, children and youth and community building events and activities
-
Access to an onsite food pantry
Applicants must be referred by an emergency shelter program (gender-based violence -specific or homeless shelter) or a Transitional Housing and Support Worker.
The program is designed for individuals who have already separated from their abuser and have accessed services and supports to help them stabilize their situation and implement safety plans. Second stage housing is not an emergency support. If you are looking for urgent shelter please call our emergency line at 613-234-5181.
Due to high demand, applicants will be prioritized based on a variety of criteria including:
-
Ongoing safety needs
-
Indigenous and Racialized survivors will be prioritized
-
Survivors with dependents
-
Accessibility needs
-
Support needs – ongoing complexities related to abuse experienced that require support
-
Vulnerabilities related to mental health, substance use and acquired brain injury
Second-stage housing provides independent apartment living and does not include on-site medical, personal care, or supportive housing services.
Residents must be able to manage the responsibilities of tenancy and daily living independently or with the support of community-based services, personal support workers, home care, family members, or other supports arranged by the resident.
