Ottawa’s first shelter for women and children fleeing abuse is turning 50 this year.
The journey to get here hasn’t been easy. But there’s so much about this milestone that is worthy of celebration.
Join us for a special, 50th-anniversary edition of the Cool Cat Cabaret. Ticket sales will help Interval House of Ottawa provide safety, support, and hope to even more families in our community.

A touch of 1920s cabaret glamour — think velvet, feathers, pearls, and a sparkle of gold. Costumes are welcome but not required.

Expect surprise entertainment, lots of laughs, dancing, and a vibrant energy that will keep you singing and cheering all night long.

An incredibly fun night with a very serious purpose — ensuring Interval House of Ottawa can continuing supporting survivors of gender-based violence for decades to come.
BUT WHY?
Fifty years after its founding, Interval House of Ottawa is preparing to open another set of doors: a new, second-stage housing development for survivors and their families.
In recent years, Ottawa’s affordable housing crisis has made it incredibly difficult for survivors to find somewhere safe to go after emergency shelter.
As of 2026, ten new second-stage apartments at IHO will provide a safe place for survivors and their children to continue healing and rebuilding their lives.
Our community — including previous editions of the Cool Cat Cabaret fundraiser — helped us get here.
Sustaining this project is now our next challenge.

behind the celebration is A Safety crisis.
As an emergency shelter, IHO operates at or near capacity. The need for safety and support for women, gender-diverse people, and their dependents fleeing violence is as urgent as ever.
Funds raised through the 2026 Cool Cat Cabaret will help IHO operate its new, second-stage housing program, while continuing its broader services for survivors and their families, including children and pets.
By the Numbers:

survivors have resided at IHO since 1976.
4,800+
dependents have stayed in-shelter.
1,019
community clients were supported over the past five years alone.
12 pets
are sheltered annually at Interval House, on average.
